Last week I sent an email out to a few people looking for inspiration for the team. I wanted to know what inspires people, to come in and CrossFit.. and also what inspires them and you, to watch people like Austin and Mel and the Reebok CrossFit ONE team compete.  Why do you come, what does it do for YOU, does it inspire you, does it simply entertain? What’s your reason?

I got a spectacular email back from Michelle Pares, and with her permission thought I’d share it with all of you.  It’s reading things like this that in turn inspire all of us coaches to continue to push you and ourselves to be better, do better and in turn we perform better.  Thank you all for inspiring us every day!

Why I do CrossFit:

It’s interesting, if you would’ve asked the same question last year, my answer would be different. Last year, I was doing CrossFit mainly because I love the community. I enjoyed going to the lunchtime class with my friends & coworkers and it was a nice way to break up the day.  The thought of doing the RX weight terrified me, and I would cherry pick the classes when I just didn’t want to do a certain movement.

A year has passed and my reasoning for doing CrossFit has completely changed.  I do it to challenge myself, to make myself better. I have never felt this good, this energized, and this confident before. And I go because I want to continue feeling this way. This past year myself and my ‘workout buddy/boyfriend’, Andrew, have really pushed ourselves and each other to be better. We eat paleo (ish), we go to the 6:30am CrossFit class, and we both feel much stronger mentally & physically.   I also just finished my first round of Women Strength classes with Denise, which has now pushed me and given me the confidence to try the RX weight in a workout when I can.  I still have many hurdles I need to overcome… (pull ups without a band… and my all-time fear – handstands), but I’m getting there. It’s amazing to see what you can do in a year – last year I got a 102 in the open for 12.4, this year my goal was just to finish the wall balls, which I not only did, but also got 12 double under’s after!

I do CrossFit because I see how far I’ve come in just a year, and I can’t wait to see what else I can do!
